When people talk about organic search and just how much it has grown, we can look to some of the keywords which people now gleefully search for to gain an insight into just how much it has grown. Recently this was very much drawn to my attention as I was doing some research on vasectomies. I began to type the word into the search engine bar and before I could finish the word there was a keyword suggestion of ‘vasectomies near me’. Interestingly I took this in my stride, as we all do in the modern world, yet the I had this light bulb moment of how absurd this appeared.

Even in the early days of the internet we would never have considered the idea of heading to the search engine to find where the most convenient place was to be sterilized, yet here we are.

Understanding the Power of SEO

At the heart of what organic search is about, are SEO strategies which are employed by companies all over the world, looking to unlock the organic search market. Now to give an indication as to just how important this market is, check out this statistic;

“On the first page alone, the first five organic results account for 67.6% of all the clicks”

Now we can see exactly why businesses fight so hard to get on that first page, they just know that organic search is critical to their success.

Volume of Website Traffic

According to BrightEdge, just over 53% of all web traffic comes from organic search results. And so to g back to the origin of this piece, if I have a surgery which specializes in procedures like vasectomies, then when people in the locality are searching for it, you had better believe that I want them to find me. When we get into the nitty gritty of course it all becomes perfectly clear, even if in reality, the keyword is still pretty wild.

The Offline Battle

For such a long time there was an assumption from offline businesses such as high street retailers or mom and pop stores, and of course sexual health clinics, that an online profile was redundant. We now know of course that even if you business doesn’t actually operate online, it has to be online in order to survive, and that is because of the sheer volume of organic traffic which of course are potential customers.

And so whilst it may sound completely absurd to quickly load up the search engine for where you could get sterilized, or perhaps have an ultrasound or colonic irrigation, this is the world in which we live. No longer do traditional search forms exist, these days we simply swipe, click and type in what we want. As we now know too, the keywords which we type only need to be half spelled, and the search engine will do the rest. Organic search has truly taken over, and the search engines know it.
