Your Viewpoint – Dog Days of Summer

summerWe are now in the last full month of summer.  It is hard to imagine, but the summer took so long to get here and now it is winding down.  We look forward to the “dog days of August” which will be followed by the kids going back to school, the nights getting noticeably shorter, and evenings getting cooler.  So, I ask you, how are you going to spend the last days of summer?

number1Vacation Time
The end of summer often means heading out to that amusement park one more time, going on a trip or just moving the hammock out into the yard.  August is always one of the hottest months here in Northeast Ohio and I look forward to spending time with my family and enjoying the days. Are you planning an end of the summer vacation?  Where are you planning on going?

number2Back To School
August was always the month where we would go shopping for new shoes, clothes, and  school supplies. There are some great deals out there right now. Just last night I picked up some one subject notebooks for only fifteen cents!  The summer attire is slashed in prices and the new fall clothing is out.  Many people, even if they aren’t going back to school, use this time of sales to pick up their warmer weather wear.  Are you planning on going back to school this year? Do you have kids that are in school?  Do you find that you are stimulating the economy this time of year for these types of things?

number3Last minute Barbeques
We spend a lot of time in the yard this time of year.  We’re preparing the grass for winter, getting summer items in the shed, getting the pool ready for a long winter and most importantly, enjoying summer sun.  One of our favorite activities is firing up the barbeque, getting together with friends and enjoying the weather.  Nothing is better than smelling the scent of burning charcoal and a nice steak or hamburger on a late summer evening.  Do you find yourself doing this, as well?  What do you like to barbeque?

number4Preparing for Winter
While a lot of the work will come later, this is also the time we like to check off the “Honey Do” list of outdoor activities.  This year we worked on our outdoor patio, did some painting and outdoor concrete work.  The end of summer reminds us that we have a finite amount of time to finish these activities.  What are your plans to do around the house before the cold weather season?

number5Doing absolutely nothing
Are you one of those people that realize that no matter what you do, winter is going to come around anyway and it will be warm again next year?  Maybe you are just caught up in the same old rut of going to work, coming home, paying your bills, going to bed and then starting the cycle over again. Is this your life?  Are there any plans to get out of this?  Maybe some of the above ideas and the posts from readers can help.
