The first week of the college season has come and gone and it was surreal. The following is a list of five things that the world has learned after opening weekend.
Violence Isn’t The Answer
Ask Oregon RB LeGarrette Blount. This talented senior is done for the year following a suspension after he struck Byron Hout a DE for the Boise State Bronco’s. This suspension will end up costing Blount potential millions of NFL dollars. Blount now has to sit and wait till the NFL Combine.
One Play Away From Disaster
The injury to OU QB Sam Bradford in the first half of Saturdays OU vs BYU game shows just how fragile a season can be. OU goes from being likely Big XII contenders to struggling to receive a bowl bid…. OUCH…
The Big Ten is Weak
Real weak.. As a conference they are weak from top to bottom. Iowa was nearly upset by a FCS school, Illinois was manhandled by a rebuilt Missouri, Minnesota needed OT to beat Syracuse ( Paulus Holla!!!) and Ohio State was almost pushed into OT by Navy… This conference is bad.
USC Will Be Fine
Matt Barkley debuted and while still rough around the edges he will not be asked to shoulder the load at USC… Make no question about it, I still think he will cost the Trojans a game or two this year but the future is bright in So Cal.
Why the SEC Doesn’t Travel
The reason is that long road trips are hell on any team. LSU was pushed by a revamped Washington Huskies program and Georgia was dominated by a robust Oklahoma State team. The reason the SEC doesn’t play away non conference games much is simple.. They are beatable…
What did I miss this week? Drop me a line and tell me what I should have caught.
