Best WW1 Movies For Memorial Day

WW1 MoviesWith all of the World War Two and Vietnam movies they play on Memorial Day, it is sometimes easy to forget that there were other wars worth remembering.  Just because the veterans are gone, doesn’t mean that we should forget.  World War One has a lot of great movies that tell the stories of the men who fought in them.  Many of these films are award-winning performances and I wish they played them more often on television.  While all of these films aren’t about Americans, several of them show that it didn’t matter what side you are on.  People are people, no matter what team they are on. Do You Believe In The End Of The World?

End of the WorldThey keep telling us that the end of the world is near.  The Mayans claim it is supposed to happen on December 21, 2012.  Others claim it might happen on October 23, 2011.  Do you believe any of it?  I don’t.  Would it surprise you that people have been claiming the end of the world is coming for the past 2000 years?  As a matter of fact, there are over 220 dates that people have given as predictions and, if you haven’t noticed, none of them have come to be true.  What is this weird and morose desire to predict our end?  Why would people predict an end of times?  In Christianity, it is supposed to represent the Rapture; the time when Jesus will return and bring all of our souls to Heaven.  The end of times is supposed to be a time of a great war between Good and Evil as foretold in the Book of Revelation.  Here are five dates that didn’t quite seem to be right. Five Best Songs About World War One

Dogfight: World War One SongsIt is hard to believe that World War One started ninety-seven years ago.  In just over four short years, members of 21 countries and empires entered into a combat that would take the lives of nearly 40 million people.  To give you an idea of how big that number is, think of losing the entire state of California!  It was a lot of people.  Luckily for us, songwriters haven’t forgotten about World War One.  They have created songs to help remind us that we shouldn’t get into wars like this disaster.  Here are five memorable songs about that time.  I have chosen videos sung by groups that I think really gave a good rendition of these songs. myFiveBest Things To Remember On Veteran’s Day

Veteran's DayVeteran’s Day is a holiday put aside for all of us to remember the soldiers who have given everything for our country.  It is primarily celebrated, to some extent, in the Allied countries that participated in World War One.  In the United States, while the official day is November 11th, it is usually recognized on the Monday closest to that date.  At eleven o’ clock in the morning on that day, a few minutes of silence should be observed to commemorate the service men and women who have helped to make our country free.  Thank the veterans that you meet, because we enjoy the freedoms that we have because of them.  Here are five reasons why we should remember Veteran’s Day.  Please, feel free to add more trivia or bits of information or go ahead and thank a veteran on here.

Five Types Of Gas Warfare Used In WW1

Gas Warfare In World War OneIt is said that if we forget about history, we are doomed to repeat it.  This can be readily apparent with the use of chemical warfare that was employed by both sides during World War One.  The use of gas was so terrifying – even though it resulted in only three to four per cent of all casualties – that it has been forbidden in warfare ever since.  Gas was highly unpredictable and there were plenty of countermeasures to stop its effectiveness.  Because gas was used by all sides during the war, it is often thought that this was a leading weapon of World War One.  It was not.  However, with the results of its use during warfare, most people believed that it was far deadlier than what actually happened.  Here are five variants of the 21+ gasses used during World War One.
