Sweetest Day: Not Another Fake Holiday

I was reading a post today on the upcoming Sweetest Day this weekend and the question was asked if people were going to celebrate it or boycott it.  Are you familiar with this holiday?  If you are outside of the Great Lakes region of the United States, you might not have heard of it.  Basically, every October, people celebrate Sweetest Day - mainly in Ohio.  Some of the comments I read stated that people did not want to participate in another "fake" holiday made up by the Hallmarks and American Greetings (which is based out of Cleveland) card companies.  Some said they don't have a sweetheart, so why celebrate?  Others complained about not having money to waste on another "love holiday".  Sadly, these reasons for boycotting this day go against everything that the day is about.  Will you be "boycotting" Sweetest Day or celebrating it?  Do you even know why it is considered a Holiday? Chocolate for Sweetest Day

chocolateIn parts of the nation, couples will be celebrating Sweetest Day on October 17th.  Sweetest Day is most popular in the Great Lakes and North East regions of the U.S.   It originally began in Cleveland, Ohio as a way to spread love and joy to the unfortunate, but today it is mainly a holiday to give sweets to loved ones.  One of the most popular gifts offered on this day is a box of chocolates.  Here are five tips on keeping your chocolate tasting its best, should you decide not to gobble it all up before the day is through.
