The Most Ingenious Dog Costumes

Porthos: The Gangsta dog! Dog CostumesSome people might say it is demented to actually put a costume on a dog, but these are some pretty ingenious outfits. Each year my wife and I dress up our dog, Porthos, in a costume. He's a white dalmatian-lab mix and we've had him play Snoopy, a gangsta, and a goblin-rider from Lord of the Rings. The costumes below are really good and some of them are easy to make to keep your dog warm and fashionable this Halloween. Which ones are your favorites?

Tools Of The Trade: Pirates Of The Caribbean!

Pirate WeaponsThis Friday, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens up in theaters everywhere.  I wonder how it holds true with real pirates.  I am not talking about the magical aspects of the movie, but how close they get to the historical bad guys.  Pirates were the scourge of the seas.  They attacked merchant ships without mercy to steal their treasures and goods.  Sometimes they were hired by a nation to attack only enemy ships.  Others freelanced on their own.  The tools of their trade varied.  They fought with what they had on hand.  These men weren't trained naval warriors.  They were a rag-tag group of outlaws and murderers who had nothing left to live for except for the adventure of the high sea. The problem is that most of the things we know about them is false.  This isn't really surprising, since pirates were the bad guys and everything we know about them comes from trials conducted on them by foreign nations. So where do the stories come from? Books and movies, mainly.  That's why we think of pirates as colorful and dastardly people.  In reality, they were cold, ruthless killers that were not very good human beings.  Here are some of the lies we've been told about them. The Statehood Quiz: Georgia

The State of GeorgiaIt's been awhile since I did a statehood quiz.  You can find all of them, so far, on myFiveBest.com.  This one is for the southern state of Georgia.  It's made up of five questions about the state.  Georgia, as you may know, is the home of the Atlanta Braves, the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, and NBA's Atlanta Hawks.  It was the fourth state to announce it's part in the United States, which it did on January 2, 1788.  Georgia was considered a sovereign state of the Articles of Confederation (not to be confused with the Confederate States that it would belong to during the 1860s).  It has a rich history and plenty of trivia behind it. piratesHow many of us grew up wishing to fight on the high seas, rescue damsels in distress, and fight against pirates?  Maybe you wanted to be the pirate and rebel against an oppressive overlord who was hellbent on destroying peace.  What it comes down to is that we all love pirates.  We love to hear their sea shanties and tales of adventures.  Here are five of my favorite pirates that never really existed in the real world.  Feel free to add in your own.
