Tall Tales And American Legends

Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue OxAmerican tall tales are typically extraordinary legends to explain ordinary phenomenon.  By telling them they are easier to remember than the scientific truth.  Sitting around a campfire and having a child ask “how did the stars get up in the sky?“, a tall tale is easier to state than a scientific explanation.  Most folk heroes are just made up tales.  Some of them are real people with fantastic stories attached to them.  This list has both since they are both part of American folklore.

Five Great Bands That Never Won A Grammy

Grammy AwardThe Grammys –  like the Oscars – are one of the highest achievements a band can claim. However, in the past few years, the Grammys have been awarded to musical talents such as Brittany Spears, Hall & Oats, Justin Timberlake, and Kelly Clarkson.  Whether you like these musicians or not, having them win this award somehow cheapens things when you consider these five bands NEVER won a Grammy.  Looking at the list below can make you shake your head and wonder who chooses the winners for these awards. 5 Woodstock Performances You Didn’t Know About

WoodstockWoodstock was the iconic music festival that occurred in August, 1969 on Max Yasgur’s farm in Bethel, New York.  We are all familiar with the bands that performed there: Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young; Jefferson Airplane; Janis Joplin; Santana; and the Jimi Hendrix Experience – but what about the performers that we have forgotten?  There were 32 performances at Woodstock over three days.  Only 31 groups performed (Country Joe and the Fish performed twice), but you only see 21 of the bands in the Academy-winning film.  Who were the bands that didn’t make the cut?  Here are five of them: Read more…

Five Best Rock Concerts I Would Have Liked To Have Seen

guitarI am an avid fan of going to concerts.  The bands can be local, rock, country, folk, oldies, or classical, but I love the sensation of being in the crowd with the wall of sound between me and the stage.  There are certain rock shows that go down in history as some of the greatest of a generation and I wish I would have been a witness to them.  Here is a list to the concerts I wish I would have seen:
