Tall Tales And American Legends

Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue OxAmerican tall tales are typically extraordinary legends to explain ordinary phenomenon.  By telling them they are easier to remember than the scientific truth.  Sitting around a campfire and having a child ask “how did the stars get up in the sky?“, a tall tale is easier to state than a scientific explanation.  Most folk heroes are just made up tales.  Some of them are real people with fantastic stories attached to them.  This list has both since they are both part of American folklore.

myFiveBest Witches Of All Time

myFiveBest WitchesIt’s almost Halloween and that’s the time for all of the best witches, ghosts, and goblins to head out in search of candy to fill their bags.  Witches are a big part of Halloween.  It is one of the most popular choices for costumes amongst women.  Many people picture the witch with the pointed hat and the mole.  Where did this idea come from?  It originally appears at a time where people looked negatively at Quakers who wore pointy hats at the time.  It died out when the Quakers stopped wearing the hats and didn’t reappear until The Wizard of Oz hit the silver screen in 1939!  Here are five of our favorite witches of all time: Read more…
