Today, May 8th is the 125th anniversary of Coca-Cola. It was originally sold as a patent medicine by pharmacist John Styth Pemberton in Georgia. Pemberton was a Confederate soldier who was wounded in the Battle of Columbus, Georgia in 1865 and saw others around him becoming addicted to morphine. He thought by creating a medicinal drink, he might be able to help people. His first carbonated beverage, known as Coca-Cola came from use of the coca plant and the kola nut. Cocaine was not used in the recipe. While Coca-Cola is a great drink, there are plenty of other things you can do with a six-pack of this tasty, refreshing beverage.
