This holiday is often associated with the Irish, who helped to form our nation, and is celebrated with the wearing of Green, traditional Irish music, and parades. Many people use the holiday to go to bars and are just "Irish for the day", but they fail to comprehend the contributions the Irish have brought to this country. The United States is a war-like nation. We've been at war throughout most of our history and because of this, we have had our share of great generals. Obviously, this list is only an opinion of who was the best generals in history of the U.S. Anyone could come up with a different list and provide a good argument to why they are right. Abraham Lincoln is one of America's most beloved Presidents. However, during his lifetime, he was so bitterly hated by half the country that, well, they assassinated him. How could one person cause that much hatred towards them? Even with the bitterness towards President Obama, the Republican party only wants to make him a one term president and they have done their best to destroy him! Some historians believe that Abraham Lincoln was the reason for his own assassination. During the Civil War, Lincoln had ordered his men to "take" Jefferson Davis and his entire cabinet and have them killed. Best Civil War Films On Memorial Day
The American Civil War (1861-1865) was a dark time in our history. The Union army versus the Confederate army - all Americans - struggling in mortal combat with one another over the issue of slavery and each others way of life. While the war didn't happen in our lifetime, its final outcome still affects our lives today. As a way of remembrance, we have books and movies to tell the tale of what happened. The movies, which this list is comprised of, may not be wholly true, but they do give you a sense of what was going on at the time.
