What We Have To Be Thankful About On Columbus Day
I know, you are probably thinking, "He's late. Columbus Day was Monday." Well, the recognized Columbus Day was Monday, this is true. However, it was on this date in 1492 that Columbus landed in what is now El Salvador. The day has been an official holiday in the United States since 1937, even though it was celebrated since colonial times. For those of you who don't know (I mean the ones who haven't entered school yet), Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492 and discovered America - even though the people living here already knew where it was. He went on to enslave the indigenous people, who he misnamed as "Indians" and took their land and gold. Some of those people he kidnapped and brought with him back to Spain. On this list of myFiveBest, I want to give thanks to what we now have because of Christopher Columbus. Read more...

Legend Vs. Reality: Debunking History
Back when you were in school (or maybe you still are in school) they told us stories from history that helped to mold the way we saw things about our ancestors. The accounts, while they make a great story, are not always true. Movies have been made over these great tales, but most of them have been based on the legend, not the true story. Tales of valor where one stood against many or legends of discovery just aren’t the same and become more “human” once you hear what really happened. Here are five of those tales.
