Presidential Marathon Runners

marathon runnersThere’s been a lot of news recently on the exaggeration stated by Republican VP nominee Paul Ryan about his speedy marathon accomplishments. While Ryan has run a marathon – and I give credit to anyone who can complete one of these races – he felt the need to state to radio host, Hugh Hewitt that he ran the Grandma’s Marathon in two hours and fifty minutes. For those of you who have never run a marathon (myself, included); that’s fast. In reality, it is also a lie. Ryan actually ran the marathon in just over four hours (4:01:25). He claims his statement is actually a misstatement, but people who run marathons KNOW what their time was to run this. Should they forget, the information is easily accessible, as Ryan found out when Runner’s World magazine fact checked him. I’m not sure why he needed to embellish his running time because it is still an extraordinary feat. Not many candidates can say they have done the same. In fact, I could only find the following five people…

How 5 Movie Tough Guys Got Their Start On Film

FistWe know them as leading men in action movies.  They’ve played the tough-as-hard-as-nails personae in hundreds of films.  But did all of these guys really start off tough?  What types of movies did they get their start in? Whether you like the nail-biting “make my day” type of gunslinger or the bulky barbarian-type, this list of actor origins will hold surprises for all.  I chose this list from some of my favorite testosterone-fueled actors out there.  See if you can come up with some other films and we can keep the list going past five. Politicians’ Kids Do The Craziest Things

PrisonIt isn’t the politician’s fault (for once).  Sometimes their kids do things that reflect badly upon them.  If you have kids, you know you can’t always control what they do.  In the case of these people, when your parent is in the limelight, you are going to catch the media’s attention, too – and boy, did they!  Every one of these kids did something to get their political parent’s in trouble with the public.  What would you do if these were your kids?  I am not going to consider GW Bush, who was snorting coke in the White House during his dad’s reign as President, nor will I include his kids (since I try to keep these articles to 1000 words or less).  See if you were aware of all of these crimes.  Note: Number five on this list might be too disturbing for young children and some people. Your Viewpoint – Bill Clinton Lands in North Korea

kimjongilFormer U.S. President Bill Clinton made an unexpected trip to North Korea today to ease tensions of two American reporters held prisoner in Pyonyang and growing nuclear troubles.  No one has made comment to the reason that Clinton is there, but these two issues are at the forefront of speculation for his visit.  Clinton is the second U.S. President to journey to the communist country (Jimmy Carter did it in 1994 at Clinton’s request) and hopefully will help build a better relation between our two countries.  It is time for your viewpoint.  How do you feel about the U.S. beginning a conversation with North Korea?  Here are five questions for you to answer:
