American Military Heroes Lost In 2011

Captain Richard Winters, 101st AirborneWhile the war with Iraq came to a close, the chapter on these men’s lives also ended. They were the men of World War Two and even World War One. These men were amongst the young men who answered America’s call in a much more innocent time and it is important that we do not forget them. They come from many different branches of the service and were part of some of the greatest battles of the wars. One of them is a Congressional Medal of Honor winner and one of them should be. You've seen their lives immortalized in film and can read about them in books. Here is a tribute to those heroes of the 20th century.

In Memory of Darrell Shifty Powers

shiftyOn June 17, 2009, Darrell “Shifty” Powers passed away from cancer.  If you are unfamiliar with Shifty, he was a member of the original 101st Airborne, Easy Company, during World War 2 and was portrayed in the television mini-series, Band of Brothers.  This hero made five practice jumps in training and jumped twice during the war.  Here are five facts you may not have known about this decorated veteran.  Feel free to leave some comments in his memory.
