According to NME.com, guitarist Joe Perry has stated that Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler has quit the band. If this is true, Aerosmith will never be the same. Here is the story.
Apparently band member Brad Whitford stated last week that Aerosmith was going to hold a meeting to discuss the future of the band because the band’s relationship with Steven Tyler has gone downhill.
Joe Perry stated “Steven quit as far as I can tell,” according to the Las Vegas Sun. He later said that Tyler has not contacted him or any of the other members of the band.
Perry went on to say that he plans to carry on with Aerosmith without Tyler. Perry and Whitford both said that they will replace Tyler as the band’s lead vocalist. He said “as far as replacing Steve, it’s not just about that, it’s also four guys that play extremely well together, and I’m not going to see that go to waste. I really don’t know what path it’s going to take at this point, but we’ll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer.”
Who know’s what is going on with Tyler. A few months ago he had a nasty spill off the stage at a show in South Dakota. The band had to cancel the rest of it’s U.S. tour because of this. Things went downhill for the band from there.
If the members of Aerosmith can play their cards right with a new vocalist, they should be just fine. Aerosmith is such a well known and highly regarded band that’s talent should help them overcome the loss of their front man.
