Is Michele Bachmann Crazy or Just a Publicity Hound?

bachmannI don’t know if you are familiar with Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann.  She represents Minnesota’s 6th District and in recent years has become a regular on cable news channels.  Some of her statements are so far-reaching, they can’t help but cause a media storm.  Here are some of her claims.  Is she really crazy or do you think she is just trying to make a name for herself and stay in the spotlight?  Be forewarned: Some of this is just crazy!

number1On the Census
Here, Michele is talking about the upcoming 2010 census.  The law states you need to fill out the decennial census (every 10 years) and you can be fined if you do not finish it.  Michele Bachmann – a law maker – is planning on defying the law.

“Enough is enough of government intrusion!”  I wonder if the comments would be the same had the other side won the election.

number2On Bringing Back McCarthyism
Remember ol’ “Tailgunner Joe”?  You may not know who he is, but Senator Joe McCarthy (R-Wisconsin) was a chapter in one of the darkest times in American history.  He led a witch hunt to route out “communists” in the government and the general populace.  People lost their entire careers based upon supposition.  Eventually, he was censured by the Senate for fear-mongering and abusing his power as a senator.  Now, in the 21st century, history is trying to repeat itself as Michele Bachmann calls for the media to do the same thing as McCarthy did in the 1950s.  Let’s hope America learns from its mistakes.

number3Bachmann on the Swine Flu
In this statement, Michele Bachmann isn’t making any claims or doing any fear-mongering.  She’s simply making a comparison. The H1N1 virus has appeared when Barack Obama – a Democrat – was President and it occurred at another time – when Jimmy Carter – another Democrat – was President.  Unfortunately, her facts aren’t straight.  The first bout of H1N1 appeared in February, 1976 – Jimmy Carter didn’t take office until January, 1977.  Gerald Ford was President at the time and he was a Republican.  Oops, Michele!  As a special note, take a look at the map with the USA on it.  Why is Canada considered part of the United States?  Are the Republicans planning on invading Canada again?

number4Global Warming is a Hoax
According to Bachmann, Global Warming isn’t something that scientists have an answer for.  If we are coming into an Ice Age – like they said in the 1970’s – then that’s Global Cooling – not Global Warming.  Following me?  Scientists haven’t established this as a fact. Note the laughter in the background when she makes this statement.

number5All Around Nutso
Here is a segment from MSNBC with Keith Olberman and Chris Hayes (the Washington Editor of “The Nation”) discussing Bachmann’s radio interview with Chris Baker from KTLK radio.  In this interview she goes off on just about everything to blame the Democratic party on the woes of the day.  According to her, the Republicans are just nice people who let the Democrats walk all over them and don’t push back.  This is an interview not to miss!
