April is here and smart shoppers are spending their tax return money on items that will stretch their dollars throughout this month. If you are going to be making a purchase of one of these items, this is the month to do it. It is the time for Spring Cleaning and organizing your home, so the items to buy for this month will help you reduce your clutter and stabilize your feng shui. If you are looking to spend, here are five tips that you'll find helpful:
Sharpen up those Tools
This is the season to start buying tools for your shed and get your Bob Villa on. Traditionally, you will always find tools on sale in early spring as people are escaping from the confines of their homes and evaluating their property for damage from the winter storms. As your Honey Do list starts to grow, find yourself in the tool aisle at your local hardware store buying up these great buys. No other season will offer these deals.
Vacuum Cleaners
Who would have thought there was a season to buy a vacuum? In our house, we always bought a new vacuum when the previous one died from the onslaught of pet hair clogs, however, April happens to really be the month to buy. The reason? New vacuum cleaners are introduced during this month and the older models go on sale. At the height of allergy season, it is always best to keep your home well-swept, and you'll find these deals don't suck!
Kitchen Appliances
This is also the time of year that new kitchen appliances are introduced. If you're looking for a deal on a new item, go out now and check out last year's models. Also, right now, the government is giving tax credits - up to $1500 - on energy efficient appliances if you buy them before December 31st. Why not pick up a refrigerator or dishwasher right now while you can buy the item on sale AND get the tax credit? Be careful, though, not all Energy Star items get the tax credit. Make sure to ask your sales person to ensure that you are buying an item on the approved list.
Get Your Garden Growing
You have to get the planting done when the planting is good. It is time to turn off Zynga's Farmville and start planting something that will make a difference. In many parts of the country, this means the month of April. It is also a good time to get out in the flower garden, as the April rains will help in May's colorful plant growth. If you get out and start planting now, you will find that you have loads of good, healthy veggies to eat by mid-summer.
A Man's Skill: The Barbecue
It is about this time, when the sun comes out and the weather warms up that I cannot wait to get outside and start cooking. Sure, it might be too cold to start the grill, but it will be time before you know it. You can't wait until Memorial Day to start buying supplies or you will be the one raked over the coals, in regards to price. This is the time to buy your grilling supplies, because the prices will continue to rise until after Independence Day. Then we'll start seeing sales again, but by that time, we're all thinking about the coming Fall. Get a head start on the grilling season now and you'll have a happy summer.
