Five People Who Died on the Toilet

toilet-paperDying in any form isn’t something that anyone relishes, but these poor people died in a place that many of us would find humiliating.  Many people who die on the toilet are the victims of a sudden drop in blood pressure due to the parasympathetic nervous system (the “rest and digest” response) during bowel movements.  Other reasons could be from vasovagal syndrome which also causes low blood pressure.  Still others simply die from other reasons – like drugs, a heart attack or some other reason.  Here are five people who met their ends while sitting on theirs.

ELVIS PRESLEY (1935-1977)

The official reason for Elvis’ death was a combination of ten drugs given in a high dosage.  He was found unresponsive on the floor of his bathroom in a puddle of his own vomit.  Initial autopsy reports indicated that he died from cardiac arrhythmia, but this turned out to be false.  Rumors were passed around that he died with a sandwich in his hand, but this was an urban legend.  That’s a Hunka-Hunka Burnin’ Love!

LENNY BRUCE (1926-1966)

The famous comedian was known for his profanity, which caused him to be arrested several times, since it was illegal at the time to swear in public areas.  His comedy ranged from politics to drugs to abortion to religion and race.  He was found in his bathroom with a syringe and other drug paraphernalia.  The cause of death was from accidental morphine overdose.  He told his last joke and it was on him…

JUDY GARLAND (1922-1969)

Born Francis Ethel Gum, this U.S. actress, most famous for her role as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, was found dead in the bathroom of her London flat at the tender age of 47.  Despite all of her success, she became addicted to drugs by the studio moguls who continuously told her that she was ugly and fat, while they made millions off of her movies.  They got her hooked on prescription drugs for over 30 years to control her weight and increase her productivity.  Garland was suicidal on several occasions, but the cause of her death was a legal barbiturate overdose.  Now she’s just Somewhere Over the Rainbow

ELAGABALUS (203AD-222AD)

Roman emperor married and divorced five times in his short 18 years on the earth.  He had some very peculiar sexual and religious appetites – too strange for his grandmother and aunt to tolerate – so they murdered him in his bathroom and threw his body into the Tiber River.  Talk about being de-throned…

ROBER PASTORELLI (1954-2004)

Actor most famous for appearing on the television sitcom, Murphy Brown, as Candice Bergman’s housepainter.  Pastorelli had a lifelong problem with drugs and was found dead in his bathroom – dead from a heroin overdose.  He could have at least waited till the paint dried…
