Each of these following people felt it was necessary to change the date of their birth. People change their names, their addresses, and even their wills, but why change the date of your birth? One of them would have had serious ramifications to U.S. History. Find out more below:
1. George M. Cohen, U.S. actor and composer. (July 3, 1878 – November 5, 1942)
Cohen is most famous for his song, “Yankee Doodle Boy” and known as “The Man Who Owned Broadway” prior to WW1, Cohen’s father – who brought the boy into vaudville as an infant – changed his birthdate to Independence Day to help further his acting career. His hits included: “Over There!”, “She’s a Grand Ol’ Flag”, “Give My Regards to Broadway”, and “He’s a Yankee Doodle Boy”.
2. Rock Hudson, U.S. Actor (November 17, 1925-October 2, 1985)
Hudson didn’t actually change his birthday on his own, it was done by an agent, early in the actor’s career, because he wanted Hudson to play more mature and leading roles. So, he added 2 extra years. That’s the opposite of what usually happens! Rock Hudson appeared in such films as: A Farewell to Arms, The Undefeated, Pillow Talk, Send Me No Flowers, and the television series, McMillan & Wife.
3. Oscar Wilde, Irish Playwright and poet (October 16, 1854 – November 30, 1900)
Oscar Wilde, famous for: The Importance of Being Ernest, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Salome, and A Woman of No Importance; changed the date of his birth from 1854 to 1856, because of vanity. He was afraid of growing old.
4. Humphrey Bogart, U.S. Actor (January 23, 1899-January 14, 1957)
Bogart was under contract with Warner Brothers’ Pictures who changed his original birthdate to Christmas Day of 1899. They thought that by giving the actor a birthday on the holiday would add mystique to him. Bogie starred in such films as: The African Queen, The Maltese Falcon, Key Largo, The Big Sleep, and of course, Casablanca.
5. Andrew Jackson, U.S. President and Military Commander (1755-June 8, 1845)
“Old Hickory”, as his men called him, was the seventh president of the United States and the hero of the Battle of New Orleans. Often, his birthdate is recorded as March 15, 1767 in South Carolina, but many biographers claim that he was born to his Irish parents on their journey to America. If this happens to be true, Andrew Jackson would not have been eligible to be the President and history would have been changed. And here you thought the conspiracies and questions about Obama’s birthplace were a first-time occurrance!
