Five NFL Quarterbacks That Must Perform This Year….Or Else

tonyromoTomorrow the NFL regular season officially begins, and I couldn’t be happier. Warranted or not, every fan has high expectations for their team and week 1 of the season is very exciting. Here is a look at 5 quarterbacks that must perform well this season….or else.

number1  Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys)- Last year the Cowboys entered the season coming off an impressive 13-3 season. They had Superbowl expectations that were halted by a disappointing 9-7 record. Romo missed three games last year in which the Cowboys went 1-2 (I blame that injury for missing the playoffs). Romo’s play in December is where he really needs to come through because he is beginning to gain a reputation of not being a big game QB. In the off season the Cowboys rid themselves of their biggest distraction, Terrell Owens. Now the offense belongs to Tony Romo. If Romo flops in December this year, I think his job will still be his next year, but head coach Wade Phillips will be gone and the Romo haters will multiply and be even louder.

number2  Brett Favre (Minnesota Vikings)- The Vikings risked a split among fans and in the locker room to bring Brett Favre back into the league. It is perceived by many that Favre came back into the league to play for the Vikes only to play against the Green Bay Packers to get redemption. Whatever the reason, the Vikings fans now have Superbowl aspirations and Favre needs to come through for them, if he fails to do so, he will catch A LOT of flack.

number3  Trent Edwards (Buffalo Bills) – Trent Edwards is a young QB who at this point in his career should not be heavily relied on to have a perform or else label put on him. The reason he needs to perform well is not the coaches, not the front office, nor the fans. The biggest reason for Edwards to perform well is to keep T.O. happy. If T.O. is not happy in the offense, things can quickly spiral out of control and a rift will develop within the team.

number4  Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears)- Jay Cutler is the QB that Bears fans have wanted for oh so long. He is the first bonafied franchise QB that Chicago has had in a while. Bears fans believe he will get them into the Superbowl this season (which is a shocker to me). If Cutler fails to at least get the Bears into the playoffs, he will see just how ugly Bear’s fans can be. The biggest obstacle for Cutler other than the Vikings is the fact that he doesn’t have a lot of weapons on offense.

number5  Marc Bulger (St. Louis Rams)- Bulger was given a contract extension in 2007, since then the Rams have been nothing but a huge disappointment. Marc Bulger isn’t the only one to blame for the bad years because the offensive line has been plagued by injuries. This year Bulger has to get the Rams back to a respectable record or he might see his time as the Rams starting QB end. The draft class for next year will include QB’s like Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, and Tim Tebow and you better believe the Rams front office will be taking notes.
