My fiance is 37 weeks pregnant and looks as if she is ready to burst. Not only physically, but mentally she is ready to explode. She is SO ready to get the baby out of her. We have been doing some research on some things that we could do to get the labor ball rolling and the baby out of her belly and into our arms. We especially liked the site givingbirthnaturally.com which is where most of this information comes from. Here are five natural ways to induce labor.

Sex
Sex is a good way to induce labor as long as your doctor doesn’t tell you to stray away from sex for the remainder of your pregnancy. Ladies, I know that this late into your pregnancy you may not be in the mood for sex, but it can help. If this doesn’t work, I’m sure that most men will not be afraid to say that it wasn’t for a lack of trying…. Wink, Wink.
 Walking
Walking can help get the baby ready because the swaying of your hips helps jolt the baby into position for birth. If you are full term but the only thing keeping you from giving birth is the baby’s position, then try to do some walking. Although walking is a lot harder than it used to be given the added weight and the way your belly can make you fell off balance, it can really help get the baby ready for delivery.
 Nipple Stimulation
Stimulating your nipples is a natural way to induce labor because a hormone called oxytocin is released. Oxytocin can cause contractions and send you into labor. Of course, you definitely should not be doing this unless you are full term in your pregnancy. Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t work because it only works if you are close to pregnancy anyways.
 Accupressure
Accupressure is an effective yet pleasant way to induce labor. To use accupressure to help induce labor you need to rub one of two pressure points. 1) The webbing between your index finger and thumb, or 2) four finger widths above your ankle bone. Just simply press in either spot and rub in a circular motion and who knows, you may have a contraction!
 Castor Oil
Castor oil can induce labor by causing the uterus to react to intestinal cramping and diarrhea, releasing prostaglandins which cause contractions. It is debated whether or not castor oil is safe for the baby because some believe that the oil gets to the baby and causes their first bowel movements. The baby could then aspirate the bowel movement and develop aspiration pneumonia. Some studies refute this claim so it is up to the mother to decide whether or not she wants to risk it.
Bottom line, I think it is best to just let the baby make up his or her own mind in regards to leaving the womb. If it goes too long, then the Doctor should take charge. Mom’s just do your best to relax and before too long your little one will be out to join you.
