Five Movies You Forgot Jim Carrey Was In

Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is a Canadian-American funnyman known for his big-budget comedies and television appearances on such shows as In Living Color.  He wasn’t always as recognizable as he is today, but if you go back, you’ll find yourself shaking your head and saying, “Oh yeah, that IS him!”  While Carrey now makes the big bucks when he stars in a movie, I would suspect that he didn’t command the type of salary when he made these five flicks.

myfivebest -1The Dead Pool (1988)
Who would have ever expected Jim Carrey to star in a film with Clint Eastwood in the Dirty Harry series?  However, he did just that.  In the final chapter of the Dirty Harry movies, Jim Carrey played Johnny Squares, a drug-addicted musician while making a movie.  It turns out he was part of a list of famous people, called the Dead Pool, run by his boss, director Peter Swan (played by Liam Neeson).  Dirty Harry is on the list, as well, and you can only imagine how bad that can go!  Carrey gets killed off early in the movie, but not before we get to see him lip-syncing a Guns and Roses song!  The entire band also shows up in a cameo appearance at the funeral of Johnny Squares!  This movie is full of future stars.

myfivebest - 2Earth Girls Are Easy (1988)
When you ask someone about this movie, they would tell you that it stars Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum and MTV Host, Julie Brown, who helped write this “epic” movie.  Do you remember the red alien, though?  Behind that mask and reddish fur was Jim Carrey!  He co-starred in this film with future boss Damon Wayans (who played the Yellow Alien).  The two aliens, along with the Blue Alien (Jeff Goldblum) crash land in a Valley Girl’s swimming pool and are forced to absorb all of earth’s cultures in 10 minutes while their ship is getting fixed.  While not a great film, it did place Carrey in a “starring” role.

myfivebest - 3Once Bitten (1985)
This was an earlier film for Jim Carrey, but it was one that he starred in.  He stars with Lauren Hutton in this vampire comedy as a teenage virgin that is trying to get his girlfriend to have sex.  The vampire countess needs to feed on a virgin three times before Halloween or she will lose her youthful beauty forever.  Carrey is tempted but will he let her finish her evil plan?  This was Carrey’s seventh film, but the first one he got to be the star of.  The rest is history…

Peggie Sue Got Married (1986)
I had to go back and see who Jim Carrey was in this movie. In the mid-eighties, this was a pretty big movie starring Nicholas Cage and Kathleen Turner.  Carrey plays, Walter Getz, one of Nicholas Cage’s friends from when they were in high school and is part of his “group” of doo wop singers.  It’s kind of hard to imagine Carrey in this role, but he does a decent job as the goofy friend.

myfivebest - 5Pink Cadillac (1989)
Clint Eastwood must have liked working with Jim Carrey because this is the second film in two years that the two were in. Once again, it wasn’t a very big part – Carrey is a lounge singer in one scene, but he was getting some air time.  In the film, Eastwood is chasing down Bernadette Peters for a bail bondsman.  Her ex-husband steals her baby but then Eastwood has to chase him down, too.  Carrey just sings a song…
