Five Celebrity Sex Offenders

Celebrity Sex OffendersIn the pecking order of disturbing crimes, sexual offense against children is one of the worst. The following five people have all committed crimes that have involved children under the age of 18. In many cases, these victims are younger than 15. It really is disgusting that these people commit these crimes and, in many cases, get away scot-free because they are famous. What are your thoughts on people like this and do you avoid their music or performances because of their deviant lifestyles or do you feel that they have paid for their crimes against society?

Peter Yarrow: Sex OffenderPETER YARROW

You probably have heard the 1960s ballad of “Puff the Magic Dragon” by Peter, Paul and Mary. The song is about a loss of innocence for a young boy who grows up and puts away all of his childhood friends. Peter Yarrow, one of the singers of this folk trio took some innocence on his own. Back in 1970, he was arrested in Washington DC for having sexual relations with two young girls. One was 17 and the president of the Peter, Paul and Mary fan club. The other was her 14 year old sister. This Grammy-award winning singer for “Best Recording of a Song for Children” was 31 years old at the time. His excuse for having sexual contact with a 14 year old? “In that time, it was common practice, unfortunately –– the whole groupie thing”. He told that to a Baltimore newspaper. Jimmy Carter pardoned him for his crimes in 1981.

Jeffrey Jones: Sex OffenderJEFFREY JONES

You might not recognize his name, but I bet you remember the face of this actor from his hey day in such films as Beetlejuice and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. In 2002, he was arrested for 14-year old boy to pose nude for him in rather sexually explicit ways. When the police came to raid his home (because that’s what they do when you are participating in an illegal perverted manner), they found Jones was stocked up on a library of child pornography. He is now a registered sex offender for life and settled out of court with his victim in the civil lawsuit that followed. For most people, this would be enough to just follow the straight and narrow path, but not Jeffrey Jones. In 2010, he was given another three years probation when he failed to notify the courts that he had moved. Jennifer Grey was right when the Ferris Bueller star thought the principal was creepy.

Roman Polanski: Sex OffenderROMAN POLANSKI

This famous director of such hits as “Rosemary’s Baby”, “Chinatown”, and “The Pianist”. Unfortunately, this Polish moviemaker is also a sexual predator. In 1977, less than a decade after his wife, Sharon Tate, and their unborn child were brutally murdered by the Manson family, Polanski found himself in hot water by having sex and providing drugs for a 13 year old girl. While facing prison time followed by deportation, Polanski fled to France in 1978. Polanski was arrested in Switzerland in 2009 and was supposed to be extradited back to the United States to carry out his sentence. This never happened and he was released in 2010. He is now back to living in France. The girl he molested has since forgiven him for his crimes. For more on Polanski’s crimes, read: http://myfivebest.com/roman-polanski-arrested-again/

You may not be familiar with Chris Langham, but he is a British comedian and writer who formally used to work on “The Muppets”. His acting credits include a bit part in Monty Python’s Life of Brian and the BBC sitcom,”The Thick of It”. In 2005, Langham was charged with possessing 15 counts of child pornography and sentenced to 10 months in prison. He additionally had charges against him from a girl who was under the age of 15, yet was acquitted of these crimes. He spent a total of six months in prison and has tried to renew his career in acting.

Pete Townshend: Sex OffenderPETE TOWNSHEND

The Who’s guitarist was arrested in 2003 after his credit card was used to access child pornography sites in England. When questioned about the site, Townshend explained that he was “doing research” on child pornography. While he cooperated with the police, accessing sites such as these is still illegal in England and he was placed upon a Sex Offender registry list for five years. His name was removed in 2008.
