Five Best Ways to Unlearn Your Marketing Message

world_wide_raveI just read this review in Website Magazine  about David Meerman Scott’s new book, “World Wide Rave” and I wanted to share this with you.  According to Scott, Viral Marketing is the way to go, but we have to “unlearn” what we know as traditional marketers and embrace a new set of rules.  This will help us get our message out beyond the typical streams of word of mouth and viral marketing and build a world-class phenomenon.  Read below David Meerman Scott’s teachings to unlearn what we know.

468x60 - What’s Your Credit Score?

number1Unlearn the use of jargon about your products and services. Instead start from the problems and needs of your buyer personas.

number2Unlearn spin. Instead, understand that people crave authenticity and transparency.

number3Unlearn interrupting people with messages. Instead, publish online content they want to consume.

number4Unlearn being egotistical and trying to force people to adapt to your terms. Instead create online content that addresses buyer problems.

number5Unlearn the assumption that you must buy access. Instead, create something that becomes a World Wide Rave and let millions of people tell your story for you.

YES!! I was just talking about unlearning today, it’s the most refreshing approach anyone can take on this subject. All you have to do is think about what makes YOU uncomfortable and defensive in the way you are being sold to. We all got so screwed in the last year with the economy falling like it did so we are all way more sensitive to this. A great lesson for all of us.
