J.K. Rowling, the writer behind the Harry Potter books, put a lot of herself into the famous book series. You can find a lot of trivia online about Harry Potter, but it is hard to come by some of the reasons how things came to be. Also, what happened after the series is over and how can we find out that sort of information? This article will give you some facts that you may not have known on Harry Potter.
King’s Cross Station is the place where all young wizards ship off to Hogwarts School of Wizardry. What you probably might not know that it is a real place and it is where JK Rowling’s parents first met on a journey to Arbroath, Scotland. She put the site in her books as an homage to her parents!
There are several characters in the books that Rowling based off of actual people in her life. Professor of Severus Snape is actually based upon a teacher that JK Rowling had as a student and that she pitied. Hermione Granger is based upon herself and Professor Gilderoy Lockhart is also based upon a real person, but she won’t tell who it is.
Always believe in yourself. Even the experts aren’t always right. When JK Rowling went to sign the contract for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Sorcerer’s Stone in the US), the publisher told her that she’d never make money writing children’s books. They also told her to use her initials in her name because boys might not be interested in reading a book written by a woman. Her later books, after she had gained her fame have sold in the millions and she is richer than the Queen of England.
According to Warner Brothers, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has made $22.2 million at its midnight showing on Wednesday night. This surpasses even Batman: The Dark Knight that held the record at $18 million for a midnight showing and Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith (at $17 million). Screen Daily claims that the latest Potter film may cross the mythical $1 billion mark for worldwide distribution.
If you go onto JK Rowling’s web site, there is are secret spots that have a special message from her bearing a dark mark (a skull with a snake through it). This is a warning that there is a “spoiler” available if you click it. One is really a genealogy of all of the characters and their children in later life. Another notes what Harry did for a living after the books ended. He had to support his family, didn’t he? Another post makes mention of what really happened in the final fight at the end of book seven…There are others, you just have to find them on the site!
