Cheap Home Remedies That Actually Work!
We've all heard about Old Wive's remedies that are said to cure everything from headaches to foot odor. Did you know some of them actually work and the solution can be found in your own home? Why spend hundreds of dollars each year when the cure could only cost you pennies? People used these remedies for centuries before some pharmaceutical company came along and decided that you should pay big bucks for the same chemical compound. Next time you are feeling sick or have a pain, why not try one of these inexpensive cures? Note: While these cures are cheap home remedies and safe, they are not meant to replace the medications provided to you by a doctor.
When the cold and flu season strikes and you get a sore throat, most of us reach for a bottle of Theraflu or other over-the-counter cold medication. While these are effective, they sometimes cost up to ten dollars a bottle. Instead of paying all that money, make your own cough medicine! Take a 1/4 cup of vinegar and a 1/4 cup of honey and mix them together, thoroughly. Take 1 tablespoon of the mixture six times for one day and your sore throat should disappear. Why? Because honey and vinegar kill bacteria in your throat. The honey sweetens the vinegar and takes off the harsh edge.
If you've ever experienced Plantar Fasciitis you know how painful it can be. It is a foot condition that causes pain in the heel of one or both feet. It can be a condition is interferes with the normal activities of life, and people suffering from plantar fasciitis are usually desperate for relief from the pain. The typical cure is surgery, which is expensive and has a long recovery period. The more practical solution won't cost you a dime. It's exercise and ice. Ice your foot three times a day. In addition to this, do some simple stretching exercises to loosen up the tendons in your foot. Press your toes on the wall with your heel on the floor. This works especially well right before you are going to do any strenuous activity that involves your feet. Also, make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes with good support and an insert. No heels, ladies!
While we are discussing feet, you might need to get rid of the itch and pain of Athlete's Foot. You can buy sprays or have a costly prescription medication to get rid of the fungus, but there is a much cheaper solution - SALT WATER! Soak your feet in a bucket of warm salt water three times a day and wear clean, dry socks and your Athlete's Foot should disappear in no time. Another excellent method is soaking them in warm water with a cup of vinegar added to the mix. If you have a severe case of Athlete's Foot, you may have to spend a little cash and buy some Boric in your local store's laundry aisle. Same method of cure: one cup of the detergent in a bucket of warm water three times a day. These methods work because they are effective in killing the fungus without harming the environment or your pets.
Acne is one of those problems that teenagers struggle with all the time. Dermatologists can be expensive, especially when there are some very inexpensive methods right in your very own home. Put some lemon juice on a cotton swab and soak the pimples that you want to eliminate. The citrus juice smells good and will remove the redness and puffiness. Fresh lemon seems to work the best, but bottled juice works, too. Crushed orange peels have the same effect. You can do this as often as you need to without side effects. A change in your diet can be in order, as well. Less fatty foods and more vitamin A and E will reduce pimples. Finally, drink a lot of water. Water hydrates the whole body and reduces the effects of trapped oils on your skin.
Having your teeth white is very important to most people. Coffee and cigarette stains can be ugly and cause you not to smile. You can try the strips and ultraviolet lights but once you've paid for those you can't afford to go out. The simple cure doesn't cost as much. Start off with some strawberries. For centuries, people have rubbed strawberries on their teeth to make them turn white. You can also use a mixture of baking soda and apple cider vinegar which is very effective. Still, others rinse their mouths with hydrogen peroxide (it costs about a dollar at your pharmacy) three times a day. Make sure you brush your teeth as you normally would after each of these applications and you'll ensure yourself a white smile!
