What Can Vets Get Free For Veteran’s Day?
Veteran's Day is this week on Friday, 11-11-11. You may not be aware of it, but each year, different businesses and organizations offer their thanks to our nation's veterans by providing free services. These services range from a free meal to discounts at big box stores to entertainment. You have to check with each location for participation and to see what is needed to prove you are a veteran, but it is a way for our country to honor those who have sacrificed for us all. Most companies require a Military ID, which includes: a U.S. Uniform Services ID Card (active/reserve/retired), Current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), Photograph in uniform, be wearing uniform (if your service permits), Veterans Organization Card (e.g., American Legion and VFW), DD214, discharge paperwork, or other form of identification. Other restaurants and companies may only require a photo of you in uniform, or go by the honor system. The best way is to check with the location before showing up. Here are five things Vets Get Free For Veteran's Day.

Anyone that owns a home knows that there is always a need to fix something or buy a new tool to complete work. Home Depot offers a 10% discount all active duty personnel, reservists, retired military, veterans and their families on Veteran's Day on purchases of up to $2,000. The 10% discount is available every day for active duty and retirees, but not all veterans. Home Depot makes this offer available to all veterans on most military holidays. Not to be left out, Lowes offers all active, reserve, honorably discharged, retired military personnel and their immediate family members a 10 percent discount on in-store U.S. purchases made between November 7-11 on purchases up to $5000. To qualify, individuals must present a valid military ID or other proof of service. Excluded from the discount are sales via Lowes.com, previous sales, and purchases of services or gift cards. Layaways Are Back For The Holidays
Once upon a time, people didn’t buy things on a credit card. They put it on something called “Layaway”. Layaway was devised so people could get a product that they wanted and didn’t have to put all the cash down at one time. They would make several payments over a pre-determined amount of time and when they paid the product off, they could take it home. Credit cards changed all of that. With the credit card, you just slapped down the card and could take the item home with you. They didn’t care how long in took you to pay the item off because they make money each month that you don’t pay your credit card off in full. This is stupid and costs you more money in the long run. People loved this, though, and layaway went away. Now that the nation is in financial straits, you can now start laying away items again at the following stores. It is very important that you check with your local stores for the exact details of your layaway plan. Read more...
