What are the worst GMO foods? You might have heard about Genetically modified foods (GMO foods). These are things we eat that have been shown to cause harm to humans, animals, and the environment, and despite growing opposition, more and more natural products continue to be genetically altered. Steering away of these foods completely may be difficult, but, by buying fresh products you can avoid getting these foods from your large chain grocer. Many of the foods found in Walmart or large chains are purchased using GMOs because they are cheaper to produce and larger than the home grown variety. Do you really believe that strawberries naturally grow to be the size of your fist? Do you ever remember seeing a potato the size of a softball? Of course not! These are modified foods using chemicals to boost their appeal. You should always look to local farmers and certified USDA organic foods when purchasing these products. It can be more expensive in the short run, but isn't the risk of cancer and other disease worth that extra cost? Here are five foods to avoid.
I love to eat apples, but I never know which ones to buy. Red Delicious apples are always the one's shown when we see a picture of a person eating the fruit, but are they the best apples of all? I got stuck in the rut of following what was pushed in front of me and purchased them, but I always found the Red Delicious apple to be sort of bland. As it turns out, these tasty red treats are only satisfactory in the overall picture. I went out on a search for the best apples and, in my opinion, these are the tastiest of the bushel. Which ones do you typically eat at home (if you eat apples, at all)? If you are not an apple lover, maybe you should give these other varieties a taste to see if you like them.
I’ve been a vegan now for just over a year and one of the questions that I am most often asked is, “How can you give up cheese?” They can understand that I cut meat out of my diet, but cheese is just “so good”. Well, I have to agree. I did love cheese, but it’s an animal product and that is something I avoid. However, if you want to delve into it even farther, there are other reasons you might find it easier to give up this tasty food. Here are five of the best reasons not to eat cheese.
Are you gaining weight on a vegan diet? Do you exercise, eat only vegan foods and still find yourself putting on pounds? It's a problem that many people, myself included, have found to happen. I started my vegan diet on April 20th of last year and for the first 8 months the weight poured off of me. By Christmas, I had lost a whopping 118 pounds! Then it slowed down to a crawl. I didn't think I had done anything to change. I had been severely overweight when I started so losing, at first, was pretty simple: Stop putting pizza in your mouth and start eating carrots. But let us face it, you can't live on carrots alone, so I started eating other vegan foods. That's when the weight loss stopped and I've been bouncing (literally) around over 30 pounds ever since...until recently. Here's what changed...
Just about everyone I know likes bananas. They are one of those fruits that is easy to take with you, isn’t too messy, and fits well in your lunch. Bananas are also great in fruit salads and in smoothies. With all of these bananas around us, what do we really know about them? They’ve been around forever and they are tasty, but there is not a whole lot to know about - is there? After doing a little research on this sweet fruit, I have found out that I know ABSOLUTELY nothing about it. In fact, I didn’t know the banana is actually proof that Darwin was right when he came up with his Theory of Evolution? Also, bananas very healthy for you. Want to learn more about bananas? Read on!
I have never been an advocate of marijuana legalization, nor does this article advocate its illegal use. However, in light of the 2012 election making recreational use of pot legal in Colorado and Washington, I am starting to see the benefits of lifting the 75+ year prohibition from this plant. Pot smokers use a non-dangerous drug which is less harmful than alcohol. The problems I’ve always had with it is the second-hand smoke that comes from its use and the way of regulating the amount in a person’s system while operating a vehicle or working. When you look at the positive benefits, though, the use of weed does not seem as bad. I would be interested in hearing from my readers why you are for or against the recreational use of pot.
