“Pepper Spray” Pike: You’ve Been Meme’d…

[ReviewAZON name=”Occupy” id=”15″ display=”inlinepost” asin=”111817531X” trackingid=”mywebsource1-20″ country=”us” width=”200px” float=”left” imagetop=”10px”]Yesterday, there were some pictures and comments posted about the Occupy protesters.  One of them was a Lieutenant police officer from University of California at Davis who was pepper spraying about 30 students sitting in a row.  Since that post, “Pepper Spray” Pike has been placed on indefinite administrative leave from his job.  Whether that was a political move on the part of UC Davis or not is up for conjecture.  UC Davis alumni are asking for the removal of the Chancellor Linda Katehi and Lt. Pike.  A letter went out yesterday asking them to stop sending their support to the University until these two people are fired.  A picture was sent out of Pike spraying the individuals on the ground accompanied with his personal email address and phone number (which was re-posted here).  Now, at the speed of the internet, the Lieutenant’s image has been turned into an internet meme.  According to the dictionary, a meme is “an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture.” In an article from Fast Company magazine this has been spreading like wildfire across the net.  Here are some of the most memorable of these memes. [ReviewAZON name=”Secret Histories” id=”4″ display=”inlinepost” asin=”1442120339″ trackingid=”mywebsource1-20″ country=”us” width=”200px” float=”left” imagetop=”10px”]The movies are full of criminal masterminds that are ruthless killers, elusive thieves, and impossible to catch.  Names like Keyser Söze, Professor Moriarty, and the Penguin all are well-known to us, but are they based on real-life criminals?  Are there people actually capable of running an underworld syndicate, causing mayhem throughout the globe?  In fact, there are people just like that and they have been scamming and killing their way through the world for centuries!  Obviously, they aren’t so blatant in their looks or crimes.  You won’t find any of these criminal masterminds running around with green hair or clown makeup, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t as diabolical as a comic book villain.  Here are five such criminals that qualify for some of the most genius of criminal masterminds. Five Last Meals Of Convicted Criminals

Last MealThis week, Texas decided to take away a prisoner’s last meal after convicted murderer Lawrence Russell Brewer ordered a large dinner as his last meal and then refused to eat it.  Lawmakers said “enough is enough” and have cancelled this tradition from the Texas death row.  Do you think this is right?  Should prisoners sentenced to death be given a last meal?  Almost all societies, all the way back to ancient Greece and Rome, offer their prisoners a last meal.  In Middle Age Europe, the last meal was thought of as a peace offering from the judge, jury, and executioner to the condemned person.  By giving them one last meal, they felt that the ghost of the person would not haunt them.  Additionally, a large last meal (combined with lots of alcohol) often calms the condemned person’s nerves before being executed – which, in turn, makes it easier for justice to be carried out.  Throughout the years, there have been some odd choices for last meals.  Here are five of them. Stars Behind Bars: 5 Musicians That Served Hard Time

Stars Behind BarsIn our society, we’ve come to expect that some of our famous musicians have done some jail time.  This can be for drug possession, drunk driving, or assault on the paparazzi.   A couple of days behind bars doesn’t make you a bad person.  It makes you a person who has made some bad choices.  Hopefully, they get their lives turned around before they end up like Amy Winehouse.  Those aren’t the people I will be discussing on this list.  These people went to an actual prison and not a county lockup or a city jail.  These are the hardened criminals of the music world.
