Best Comic Book Movies

I have loved Superhero movies and tv shows since I was a young kid.  On Saturday mornings, I'd watch Shazam!, Isis, and the Justice League of America.  Linda Carter as Wonder Woman was an early favorite and seeing Superman hit the big screen was a dream come true!  Here is my list of the best Comic Book movies of all time.

ironmanIron Man (2008):
When I first heard they were going to  be doing Iron Man the big screen, I was worried.  Iron Man, while mainstream with the comic-fan geekdom, isn't exactly a household name.  However, they did a better than a great job with the movie.  I liked the way they were able to get the Iron Man version one armor into the movie and Robert Downey Jr. played a fantastic Tony Stark.  Is it me, or does everyone else believe he just played himself with more money and brains?

batmanbeginsBatman Begins (2005): I loved the 1989 Batman series and I thought 'how can they do better than Keaton/Nicholson?' but this movie proves that Christian Bale IS Batman.  It's dark, it's brooding, it's gothic...it is what Batman should be. Christopher Nolan captured the modern Dark Knight and exceeded my expectations.  Having him fight the Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul didn't lose any points, either.

The WatchmenThe Watchmen (2009):  I might catch some flack from this choice, but I don't care.  This is one of the greatest comics in the 30+ years that I've been reading the genre and I was happy to see it come to the big screen.  It was eerie to see the pages come alive under Zack Snyder's direction and I was happy he didn't lose the story by condensing a 12 comic series into a movie. For me, the opening credits were a credit to his directing capability.

 The 300

The 300 (2006): Another Zack Snyder film, this movie is not a a superhero film, but something loosely based off the battle of Thermopylae.  Fantastically portrayed, this is a great film that I'll watch over and over again.

Sin CitySin City (2005): Dirty, gritty and dark.  Forget the 'Wrestler', Mickey Roarke portrays a great role in this movie as Marv.  Bruce Willis has a great part, too.  It reminds me of a Quentin Tarantino film in the way I left the film feeling the need to take a shower.  I wouldn't suggest taking your kids to see this one, but it is really good.

Yup.  There's no X-Men, Spiderman, Wolverine, or Superman to be found on the list.  I didn't put the Dark Knight on here, either.  I think these films were much better than any of those...what do you think?
