5 Best Christmas Movie Villains

5 Best Christmas Movie Villains

Christmas Movie VillainsWhy is it that we all like Christmas Movie villains? They are the antagonist that everyone loves to hate! Maybe it is a “bad-boy” complex that we all secretly harbor, but the villain is the star of the show! The same goes with Christmas movies. While Christmas is a time for giving, these bad boys think it is better to take than receive. Who are the villains that make your naughty list? I’ve come up with five that I think are the most foul, ruthless, and dastardly of the holiday season.  See if you agree! If not, tell me who your favorite Christmas movie villains are.

Hans Gruber, Die Hard

DIE HARD (1988)

Hans Gruber is the bad guy in this film. He’s the main antagonist to Bruce Willis’ character, John McClain. Even though Die Hard is not, strictly speaking, a Christmas movie, it does take place during Christmas time during an office party in a high rise. This action filled adventure doesn’t have Santa Claus coming into rescue the day, but there is plenty of Christmas fun to be had for all…except maybe Hans Gruber.

Marv and Harry from Home Alone

HOME ALONE (1990)

Marv and Harry (played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) decide to rob 8-year old MacCauley Kulkin’s home, not realizing that he missed going on Christmas vacation with the rest of his family. They try to burglarize the house only to be stopped time and time again by the machinations of Kulkin. Great family movie!

Scut Farkis: A Christmas Story

A CHRISTMAS STORY (1983)

The bad guy in this film was the arch-nemesis of Ralphie. His name was Scut Farkis (Zack Ward). Scut was the neighborhood bully who wore a Davy Crockett cap and threw snowballs. He was the type of person who terrorized even an adult Ralphie, years later, with his “yellow eyes and rancid coonskin cap.

A Christmas Carol: Ebenezer Scrooge

A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Various Movies)

Who doesn’t know Ebenezer Scrooge? He is the bad guy in the story, “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. This book helped to save Christmas when Dicken’s wrote it in 1843. This story was so popular, it helped to make Christmas Cards and Christmas Trees part of the holiday celebrations. The movie has been remade numerous times with different versions of the same theme. A curmudgeonly Scrooge is visited by four ghosts in one evening that try to change his ways to be a better human being. It is one of the most lasting tales of Christmas ever written.

It's a Wonderful Life: Mr. Potter

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946)

This is the famous Frank Capra film, starring Jimmy Stewart, who plays a man (George Bailey) who thinks his life is worthless and people would do better off without him. The arch nemesis of the film is old Mr. Henry Potter, played by Lionel Barrymore (Drew’s great-granduncle). He is a rich, bitter old man who does everything in his power to ruin George Bailey and take over the town of Bedford Falls. Everything Mr. Potter did was for greed and money. He is purely an evil, heartless man.
